In response to the high price of imported soybeans, the Association of Indonesian Tempe and Tofu Producers Cooperatives (Gakoptindo) has instructed tempe and tofu craftsmen to increase prices by up to 20%. This is done so that tempe and tofu commodities continue to circulate in the market after the production strike on 21-23 February 2022.

The government is trying to find a solution so that the price of soybeans, raw materials for tempeh and tofu, can fall back to around USD 0.62 per kg. Currently, tempe and tofu craftsmen still buy soybeans for USD 0.76 - 0.83 per kg.

Indonesia still imports around 90% of its soya bean for internal consumption. Traditionally Indonesia Import Soya beans from USA and Canada; there may be an opportunity to give sourcing alternatives to Indonesian Importer from other soya bean producing countries.
