The surprise appearance of the squid (illex), mainly from the North Patagonian Buenos Aires Stock, caught north of parallel 44 ° S, contributed to Mar del Plata city recovering volume during the first six months of the year.
Data from the National Under secretariat of Fisheries indicate that the local maritime station received a total of 205K tons of fish and shellfish between January and June. This is 16.4% more than last year in a general context of retraction for activity.
The accumulated global unloading transited the area of 383K tons, 7.1 % less than in the first half of 2019. Almost all ports show negative numbers in the interannual comparison: Madryn, Deseado, Rawson, and Ushuaia, among them.
There were about 107K tons of squid that Mar del Plata absorbed, favored by efficient stowage and cargo services. Naturally, the more than 80K tones of Hubbsi Hake also contributed.
Exports
The new Situation Report also includes the landings, by vessel, of pollock, anchovy, mackerel, and spider crab, along with the export data registered by INIDEC (National Statistic and Census Institute) until May.
Until that fifth month, the industry had sent 205,6K tons abroad in exchange for 706.8M U$. The year-on-year decline was 2.4 and 9.6 % respectively. Except for rays and squid, the operation was marked by the low average prices.
