Guatemalan sugar mills are preparing extra supply to export to the United States as the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), allocated the quotas corresponding to 2023 under the tariff quotas of the International Trade Organization (WTO) for unrefined sugarcane, which allowed the import of 51,639 mt of Guatemalan unrefined sugarcane, representing a 2.16% increase from the 2021 quota of 50,546 mt. The import quota might increase according to the United States' needs during the year.
