The export volume of Taiwanese Sugar Apple has grown year by year. In 2019, Taiwan exported 14,355 MT, valued at USD 39m. As of July 2020, the export value has reached USD 31m, which is a 11.31% increase compared to 2019. The Sugar Apple from Taitung city, located in the east coast of Taiwan, takes up 80% of the total volume. After 5 years of research and development, Taitung Agricultural Center has announced a new fruit freezing technology that extends the shelf life of fresh fruit. It is expected that the technology will break the export barrier, arising from short shelf life and long transport time.
