The Tanzania-China Seafood Export Agreement became effective in December 2022 after Tanzanian president, Samia Suluhu Hassan signed the agreement during her recent visit to China. There is high demand in the Chinese market for Tanzanian wild Nile perch, fish maws, lobster and shrimp, king crab, queen crab, brown crab, ribbon fish, salmon, and flounder fish. In 2020, Tanzania’s seafood exports reached USD 140 million while China’s seafood imports totaled USD 15.3 billion in the same year.
