Following the finding of the coronavirus trace in Jilin province in China on several imported squid from Indonesia late last week, the central government has instructed the local government in the region to shut down the import of packaged squid from Indonesia. Although there was only one case found in one small region in China and it is still unclear whether the squid contracted the virus at the port or during the transport, the central government still decided to take precautionary measures in order to contain the possible widespread contamination of the virus. This temporary stoppage is expected to lower down the total export volume of squid from Indonesia by as much as 30% in the third quarter of 2020, considering that China being the primary destination for the export of squid.
