The sector, including canned anchovies, sardines, tuna, and mackerel, is ever-expanding, with domestic demand rising by 14%.
Currently, Italy leads the European market for imports of anchovies for processing. Nevertheless, Covid-19 and the consequences of sea-level rise in the Western Pacific Ocean have boosted the demand for Italian canned anchovies to Asian countries, confirming Italy as the second biggest European exporter.
