The Phytosanitary Committee of the European Union reported that as of August 16 it will not allow the entry of any citrus cargo from Argentina. The measure is expected to last until April 30th, 2021. This is due to the appearance of Black Spot (Phyllosticta Citricarpa) mainly in the shipments of lemons produced in the Northwest (NOA). That sector had already been self-limited and stopped exporting, but the European decision will now also affect shipments of oranges and mandarins, which are produced at the other extreme, between Entre Ríos and Corrientes, in the NEA. In this way, the producing sector most affected by the health situation became that of sweet citrus, which still had approximately 30K tons of fruit to ship to European markets. Until August 16, shipments in port will be able to leave and those that are already in the water will be able to continue their course.
