In 2020, Coconut coir was one of the fastest-growing export commodities in Indonesia amid the coronavirus pandemic. It was recorded that in the span of January to December 2020, the coconut coir export volume reached 210 KMT, an increase from its record in the year before at 200 KMT. Some of the coconut coir from Indonesia has now penetrated developed countries such as South Korea, Japan, and Germany. Aside from its usage in the manufacturing industries, most of the exported coconut coir has now also been used as plantation media in the agricultural industries, especially in the hydroponics sector. It is expected that this momentum can be used to improve the export growth of coconut coir in 2021.
