Leading up to the Islamic holiday in the fourth week of November 2020, the price of goat meat at the traditional markets across Indonesia has shown a gradual increase. In the first three weeks of November 2020, goat meat was traded at the highest average price of IDR 125.000/Kg, but now the price is reported to be at IDR 140.000, which is a 12% increase in the period of only 1-week.
Some sellers also expect that the price will go up as high as IDR 155.000 in the coming days as the demand will also grow. Maulid is one of the biggest traditional Muslim holidays in Indonesia and goat meat has been historically used to produce various traditional cuisines most commonly associated with this holiday such as goat curry and goat soup, hence making the demand its annual highest at present.
