Unlike the southern part of Java where farmed lobsters are produced on the surface of the sea in offshore cages, in the northern part of the Java sea such as Banyuwangi regency in East Java, lobsters are produced in underwater cages. This alternative was taken as the production on the surface has not been possible due to the rough current and harder waves in the area. By keeping the cages underwater, the farmers are able to keep producing even during high tide during the rainy season. Still, one challenge remains as feeding the lobster can be relatively more difficult as thee farmers must dive to bring food to the farmed lobsters.
