South African poultry producers have seen a rise in feed prices, which is driving up poultry prices. Feed prices had gone up due to the low grain production in the United States and Europe. In addition, the high transport costs for dry bulk goods and current constraints in freight due to disruptions in the supply chain also contributed to the rise in feed prices.
