The peanut market in Europe was relatively stable over the summer of 2021, similar to pre-Covid market conditions for buyers and suppliers. However, recent logistics issues have been causing peanut prices to surge since September of 2021. For example, the US is now done with its harvest and has been storing peanuts for export. Typically, the US exports peanuts at a steady rate. However, due to the container shortages in the US, volumes are not being released, and therefore prices are surging in Europe.
