Tomato contracts are negotiated between tomato producer organizations and processing industries. Contracts for more than 1.80 million MT produced in more than 24,000 hectares in the Extremadura region rea expected for this campaign. This campaign is conditioned by exorbitant production costs due to the more than 100% increase in the price of fertilizers, more than 40% of the prices of phytosanitary products, diesel, etc. Likewise, contracting is being conditioned by the availability of water for irrigation since, in some production areas, such as Andalusia, the availability of water for irrigation at this time is null. With production costs soaring, with water scarcity, with high grain prices, farmers will not be able to produce tomatoes for less than EUR 105 per MT.
