Turkey becomes the top agricultural products importer from Russia in 2021

Turkey's total agricultural product imports from Russia in 2021 reached USD 4.3 billion, while its exports to Russia remained at USD 1.5 billion. According to the Agro-export Federal Agency of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Turkey is the leader in wheat imports from Russia. In 2021, Turkey imported 6.7 million MT of wheat from Russia, worth USD 1.8 billion.

Additionally, Turkey increased its sunflower oil imports from Russia by 42% in 2021, and USD 1.1 billion was paid to import 913 KMT of crude oil from Russia. Turkey ranks first in sunflower oil imports from Russia.

One of the products with the highest increase in imports from Russia was barley. While Turkey imported 1.2 million MT of barley from Russia in 2021, thereby tripling its import volume, in value, the barley imports nearly quadrupled and reached USD 309 million. Turkey is also the leader in barley imports from Russia.

Furthermore, Turkey imported 1.1 million MT of bran from Russia in 2021 for USD 235 million, representing a 21% increase in volume compared to the previous year.
