The EU has an import quota of 20 KMT of pasta products imposed on Turkish exporters. Turkey has reached the quota in just three months during the pandemic, driven by the growing demand.
Turkey's production output was at 2.05 million tons in 2019 and the estimation for this year is to reach 2.4 million tons. The reason behind the increase is the growing export demand and the production increase during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The import quotas by the EU have been in place since 2006 and it's one of the reasons Turkish pasta not having a significant share in the EU market. Turkish pasta producers and exporters are asking for the complete lift of the existing quotas on Turkish pasta products.
