There has been a significant increase in domestic consumption of coffee in Uganda. In 2021/22, Ugandan coffee consumption increased to 350,000 bags (21,000MT) compared to a similar period in 2017/18, when the country consumed only 244,800 bags (14,688MT) of coffee. This increase is mainly attributed to the Ugandan government's "Buy Uganda, Build Uganda" (BUBU) campaign, an initiative to encourage the buying of domestic products. Secondly, Uganda has attracted many international investors in the coffee value addition sector by giving them incentives such as free land and a tax holiday in line with the Uganda Investment Authority's target of making Uganda an international investment destination in East Africa.
