Ukraine has been increasing its farmed snail production over the few past years and has reached around 400 snail farms nationwide.
Snail farms in Ukraine rely on exports to Western Europe, especially to Italy and Spain however, Covid-19 related lockdowns and restrictions seem to have disrupted the exports.
Ukrainian farmers are expecting to have around 1000 tons of snails farmed by the end of 2020 but they fear that majority of the production isn't going to make it to their destinations and that might even take the farms down by forcing them to close.
The country has exported 250 tons of snails in 2019 and the closest competitor is Poland which has the trade advantages of being an EU member, however, the Ukrainian snails have more competitive prices by 10% compared to the Polish.
