Vietnam reports new outbreak of Avian Influenza

The Vietnamese Department of Animal Health reported on Friday (07/08) to the World Organization for Animal Health, a new report on highly pathogenic Avian Influenza of the H5N1 serotype. According to the report, the outbreak was identified in a village in the northern Chau Dien district.

The outbreak was seen in a farm with 1,040 birds. Of that total, according to the document, 500 animals were infected, 200 of which died. The source of the infection is still inconclusive. Vietnamese territory is separated from Thailand - one of the main producers of chicken meat in the world - only by Cambodia, to the south, and Laos, to the north.
