The Import-Export Department of Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced a significant development in China's banana import market. Vietnam is the largest exporter, surpassing the Philippines. China's banana imports from Jan-24 to Feb-24 totaled 336.9 thousand tons, valued at USD 159.9 million, a 6.1% year-over-year (YoY) increase in volume but a 17.2% YoY decrease in value. Vietnam's exports to China accounted for 51.5% of this total, with 173.5 thousand tons valued at USD 70.3 million, representing a substantial increase in volume and value. This shift is due to China increasing imports from Vietnam while reducing those from the Philippines due to production challenges and price discrepancies.
