The Pigeon Peas market has been very volatile in India in 2022. At the start of the Tanzanian season, W34, the CNF prices were around USD 730/mt in the Nhava Shiva port, and later, the price dropped to USD 560/mt in W37, and in W41, the price reached USD 700/mt. Indian buyers were reluctant to buy due to the high rates in W34, so suppliers in Tanzania started to drop prices as India is the biggest buyer of Pigeon Peas. The low prices created a massive increase in demand, forcing suppliers to raise the prices back up. The Indian demand for African pigeon peas will remain high as the Indian crop, which usually starts in November or December, is expected to be lower than expected. The price in the upcoming weeks is forecasted to reach USD 740-750/mt due to the high demand.
