In the past two years, the pandemic has led to a year-on-year decline in fruit imports, an overall decrease in fruit supply, and an increase in domestic fruit prices for China. From March to June, the supply of domestic fruit is relatively small. On April 21, the wholesale price of Leizhou watermelon in Guangzhou wholesale market was ¥6/kg, and the wholesale price of Yunnan watermelon was ¥10/kg.

The main reasons for the high wholesale price of watermelon this year are the effects of the pandemic, the decline in the import volume of watermelon, and a decrease in the local planted volume due to unfavorable climate conditions and the low price of watermelon in previous years. Closures and control measures caused by the pandemic have increased transportation and labor costs.
