South African avocado prices increased by 5% WoW to USD 876.87/mt (R14,030) as market demand increased. Prices are expected to remain at this elevated level for the rest of the year due to lower volumes in the global market as Kenya’s avocado season starts to wind down. However, South Africa’s avocado exports to the EU market are expected to decline by 22% WoW in week 29 of 2022 to 366,000 cartons (4kg). Exports of the Hass variety may decrease by 28% WoW to 216 000 cartons, while exports of green skin avocados may drop by 11% WoW to 150 000 cartons. South Africa currently has a share of almost 12% in the EU avocado market which is expected to receive a total of 3.8 million cartons in week 29.
