In W52, chickpea prices in India rose 17.82% YoY to USD 0.57/kg but experienced an 8% MoM decrease since W 47. The upward trend in 2023, starting at USD 0.46/kg in January and peaking at USD 0.65/kg, is attributed to a global chickpea shortage, worsened by adverse weather conditions. To address the scarcity, India procured 2.35 mmt in Q1-23.
