Dragon fruit can be considered as the number one export fruit from Vietnam. With over 25,000 containers exported annually (mainly to China), it is one of the driving agricultural commodities in Vietnam. Dragon fruit in Vietnam is divided into 2 seasons, which are the natural season (April to October) and the irradiation season (November to March). Natural season fruit is more price friendly, but the quality and sizes are not as big and regular as during the electric season. The electric season for dragonfruit means, that there are light lamps installed between the dragonfruit trees and are turned on for the whole night due to not enough sunlight during the day. The price is due to usage of electricity higher, but the fruit size is bigger and the quality of the fruit is more suitable for the export market. White dragonfruit in Vietnam is grown mainly in Binh Thuan province with over 15,000 hectares of land with the second location in Long An province, where can you find 2,000 hectares of white dragonfruit.
