The mission of Tony and Kimberly Kirk's Birdstone Winery is to create premium wines from Madera-appellation grapes. Tony, Kimberly, and their kids Travis and Conner make up the winemaking crew at Birdstone, which has always been a friend and family endeavor. Siblings, parents, or friends of Tony and Kim are frequently seen working the bar in the tasting room or helping to crush grapes during harvest.
While attending California State University, Fresno, Tony Kirk, who was born and reared in Madera, California, got a taste of the wine industry. Tony grew interested in winemaking after touring over a hundred vineyards and took courses at UC Davis and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. To learn about the "true" side of the wine industry, he started speaking with other winemakers and winery owners.
