It all started in 1860 at Grasmarkt No. 7: This is the initial entry for the company "FLBodes," established by Franz Ludwig Bodes, in the address book of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Born in 1863, the fishmonger shifted his operation and settled four years later, in 1864. He later carried on his father's business and established additional branches. In 1882, the founder's son established a branch at 73 Faulenstrasse.
In 1886, a second store opened in Ostertorsteinweg 88/89. A branch of FLBodes was established at Sögestrasse 16b in 1888 and at Nordstrasse 2c in 1892. The Zwischenahner Meer was leased in 1898, just before the new century. From that point forward, fisherman from the company operated in a professional manner.
