Sam Dhaliwal moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on March 21, 1973, from the great Indian state of Punjab, which is home to some of the world's most fertile soils. Although at the time, cultivating berries was the furthest thing from his thoughts, farming has always run in his family. In 1977, Sam bought his first 10 acres in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and planted raspberries, which formed the basis for where we are now.

Sam tried growing brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, and strawberries throughout the course of the following ten years, but it seemed that raspberries were his favorite fruit. Sam decided to sell his farm during this time and move his business to Washington State as a result of land use difficulties in the rapidly expanding Fraser Valley. In the spring of 1987, Sam planted his first 35 acres of raspberries in Washington. As the years went on, he proceeded to buy more land and plant more raspberries and blueberries. Samson Farms LLC had 225 acres of raspberries and 80 acres of blueberries in 2004 when a fruit processing facility was added to the business.
