Why Us?

01

Long History

Our winery was founded in 1078, boosting a history of more than 1,000 years. In 1078 a noble Italian lady, called Matilde di Canossa, donated the fief of Usigliano to the bishop of Lucca, thus the name changed into Usiglian del Vescovo, where Vescovo means bishop.

02

Green Acting

We are committed to preserve the fertility of the soils and we strongly believe in biodiversity. Our ethical and sustainable approach reflects in all our choice, from selective mowing which generates organic manuring and active fertility to our sandy soil, to very low yield per hectare and differentiated pruning of each vine aiming at the best sensorial harmony.

03

Marine soil

Our soil is the result of a transformation in millions of years, a unique soil which in the Pliocene era (5 million years ago) was an ocean bed. Today this bed is sandy and fertile, rich in marine fossils and microelements.
