Freshly cut, the roots are pink while after several minutes, they become red. After wash-ing, the roots are dried on air or in dryers at a temperature of 40-45oC. The dried roots are red-brown on the outside and with red tinge on the inside. The plant contains flavonoids, catechin tannins, polyfenol acids, condensed tanins, sesquiterpene lactones and others. Definition: Product from dried roots of the plant Geranium sanguineum. Characteristics: Red-brown to brown amorphous powder, with specific odour. Content of specific natural components: Tannic compounds, determined as tannin, based on dry substance, %, not less than: 25.0 Polyphenols, determined as catechins, based on dry substance, %: 22.5 to 27.5 Anthocyanins, total, based on dry substance, %, not less than, %: 0.3 Control: The qualitative indices of the product are controlled in accordance with the company docu-mentation, where assay methods and their validity concerning linearity and repetition are included. Storage: Store in dry and cool places, away from direct sunlight. Shelf life: 3 (three) years from the date of production.
