Mpola means 'black coffee without sugar' in Tengo language, and Halisi is a Swahili word meaning authentic, real or true. “Mpola Halisi” is grown in the Matengo Highlands along mountain ranges of great rift valleys on Lake Nyasa walls, in a valley called Hagati in Mbinga District, Ruvuma region, at an altitude of 1,240 to 2,100 meters.
