Tanzanian crop production expanded by 3.9% in Q1 2022 compared to the 1.4% recorded in Q1 2021. Major crops that contributed to the YoY growth include an increase in paddy production of 18.9% to 553,000 MT; beans and pulses increased by 3.0% to 172,000MT; maize increased by 2.6% to 2.8MMT; and sweet potatoes increased by 0.9% to 345,000MT in 2022. The increase is due to the use of technology and inputs, conducive weather in areas of production, and improved extension services.
