Bulgaria's walnut production output stands at over 3500 MT/year and this year Bulgarian growers are expecting a better yield than last year. The average production yield is expected to vary between 320-450 kg per 1000 square meters as well as in some regions the yield is expected to be as high as 600 kg per 1000 square meters. The farmgate prices for the current year will vary between €1,18-€1,64 per kg at specialized walnut orchards and between €0,87-€1,08 per kg for wild-grown walnuts. Bulgaria has quite significant wild grown (unattended) walnut trees that are under strict state governance and control and are prohibited to be cut down. On the other hand, wholesale walnut prices are expected to be at the level of €6,15 - €7,70 per kg this year.
