Although COVID has had an impact on the country's exports, local chilli farmers are relieved because Malaysia has fewer chilli imports from Vietnam. In the past, Malaysia used to import a lot of Vietnamese chillies, which made the farmers feel sorry for the attitude of some parties who imported chillies in large quantities abroad, which affected the income of the local farmers, as the wholesale prices for chillies dropped almost daily to 2.50 RM per kilo due to dumping of the local chillies.
