Turkish banana exporters are struggling mightily with the borders to Iraq and Iran being shut down due to the Covid19 outbreak. One batch of shipment was tried to be delivered through Armenia but was not accepted into the country. This batch was later tried to be re-routed via railway through Iran but as train cars are not equipped with cooling systems, they were not suitable for fresh produce transport.
As a result, 200 trucks of bananas went to waste whilst trying to find an exit from the country to deliver the orders as promised. The exporters are quite concerned about future shipments as the harvests of other important export fruits such as sweet cherry, apricot, and peach are right around the corner.
