The saline drought is increasing production costs for snakehead fish farmers while the prices of fish are abnormally low. Wholesale snakehead fish is currently priced at around 1.16 USD/ kg, down by 1 USD/ kg compared with the pre-Tet period, while production costs are over 1.29 USD/ kg. The reason is due to high salinity which affects growth rate, closed sluice gates to prevent water shortage, and decreased consumerism due to Coronavirus.
