The 2020 wheat harvest season is about to begin in Paraguay (it goes from end of April to end of May/beginning of June), and the prospects are positive according to members of the sector. In 2019, the crop reached around 430 000 HA, and the figure should be higher in 2020, taking as a reference the highest number of seeds that were purchased.
The price is also more favorable, around USD 20 more per tonne than in 2019, and the recent announcement by Russia that it would be stopping its wheat exports opens new opportunities for Paraguay to enhance its role as an international supplier.
