The federal government’s and the Benue state government recently commissioned a 200,000 capacity yam storage facility for Micro, Small And Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Benue state. This is to aid in the reduction of post harvest losses that result from poor storage facilities in the country and increase exportation.
The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service is responsible for testing and certifying that the yams are safe for export.
The choice to site the facility in Benue state, resonates from the fact that the Zaki Biam market in Benue accounts for 70% of the yam cultivated in Nigeria.
