Saffron exports from Iran have been halted as the export destinations become the epicentre for COVID19 pandemic outbreak. Italy and Spain were major export destination for the saffron. Iranian exporters have recently resumed saffron shipment to some of the destinations with higher farmgate prices. The prices have approximately increased by 8% varying roughly between USD310 per kg to USD570 per kg. The country had exported only a little over 15 tons during the pandemic period which is a 40% decline in the sales in comparison to the previous year. Iran exported 251 tons of saffron last year and exporters are relying on last year's figures and compensate for the losses incurred during the Covid-19 outbreak.
