The widely known Indian Darjeeling tea, exported to various markets overseas, had lost a good portion of its first harvest due to the COVID lockdown and decreased demand from major importing countries such as Germany, Iran, and Japan. The second harvest is out and ready for export, but the price of this second harvest tea is INR 30 per kg higher than the price in 2019. Major importing countries such as Germany and Japan are slowly opening up from lockdown and also are asking for samples to test before a consignment of import due to health concerns in the current environment, which is slowing down the export process. However, Iran has started putting high orders for the second harvest.
