Fish prices are expected to soar in the coming days in Cameroon. A prediction explained by the ban in early February on the importation of fresh or frozen fish products from China, decided by the government to avoid the importation of Coronavirus.
According to the INS, China is Cameroon's second-largest supplier of fish. Importers of frozen fish in the country mainly source 50.6% from the African market (Mauritania, Senegal), 19.6% from Asia (China) and 12.9% from Europe (Ireland).
It is also worth to mention that imports of fish strengthen the production of the local fishery, which increased from 252,214 tonnes in 2014 to 292,675 tonnes in 2018.
