The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia (MOMF) has reformed the regulation that dictates the use of trawl in the production of groupers by fishermen who operates their fish-catching boats in the Java Sea. The newly-released regulation would allow the fishermen to once again use trawl as long as the dimension is in accordance with the mandated length and width and has received a usage approval from the representative of the MOMF. The regulation was reformed following the negotiation by the local fishermen association who experience a considerable decrease in their production output. Previously, in the span of January to June 2020, this equipment had been banned as the original length of the used trawl had caused an environmental issue as it often would touch the seabed and destroy the reefs in the Java sea.
