Gap between the farm gate and retail prices for tomatos

Bulgarian tomato farmers are not satisfied with huge price gap between the retail prices in supermarkets and the farmgate prices. The farm gate prices are approximately €0.30 - €0.40 per kg and the retail prices are in the supermarkets are €2,50 - €3 per kg. Cucumber farmgate prices have also fallen to €0.25 - €0.35 per kg. The overall consumption in the country has fallen down due to which products are not sold at the desired pace. There are large quantities of leftover products which increase the cost of storing for retailers and suppliers.
