Uganda produces more Milk than it consumes. The high production of Milk in the country is faced with low domestic and unstable foreign markets. Most of the farmers in the country switched from the traditional long-horned cattle for exotic breeds increasing production.

The domestic market in Uganda consumes very small per cent of what is collected and foreign markets such as Kenya have frequently been imposing import restrictions on dairy products from Uganda. Other potential markets for Milk from Uganda is Tanzania whose taxes on imports are restraining and Rwanda who focuses on producing and processing enough Milk on their own.
