Unlike the majority of the provinces in Indonesia where the price of milkfish is at a stable rate or at a slightly higher rate, the price of milkfish in the West Nusa Tenggara province is currently at its lowest in the second quarter of 2020. This fish is now priced at IDR 50.000/Kg, significantly lower than the national average price of IDR 70.000/Kg. This low price is mainly attributed to the abundance of supply in the local market. Aside from the wild-caught milkfish, there are plenty of farmers in this province who focus on the production of farmed milkfish, for both freshwater and seawater milkfish. One country that has been importing milkfish from this province is East Timor due to its proximity to this province.
