A new production method called the Bioflok has been gaining more attention among tilapia farmers in Indonesia as an alternative to the traditional method of producing tilapia using on-ground ponds. The Bioflok method employs the usage of the thick-plastic above-ground pool equipped with air pump as the production platform of the tilapia fish. This method has been slowly replacing the traditional method of tilapia production in Indonesia due to the fact that there is no need to dig a hole, hence preventing the pools from flooding during the heavy rainy season that can ensure the production can run optimally all year round. Aside from that, this method generally requires less water as the water change can be minimized since there is no direct contact with soil. Moreover, this method also enables the farmers to monitor the growth of the fish more carefully as the fish is highly feasible from the surface.
