The Federal government through the Ministry of Agriculture has financed rice production schemes in the southern states to increase the production capacity and reduce the import volumes. This is a part of the food security goals the country has set for 2025. Each scheme will produce 5-10 thousand hectares and up to 10 schemes are expected to be released for cultivation for a year.
