Pineapples produced in Costa Rica are less competitive at the global market as their prices are steeper than those pineapples produced in Mexico or in Thailand. The main reason why Costa Rican pineapples are costlier is due to the high cost of production contributed by labor rates, expensive ingredients and lack of economies of scale.
