Kyustendil is one of the main sweet cherry growing regions in Bulgaria which contributes with a production output of 7,000 MT annually.
The main buyers of the Kyustendil sweet cherries are Italian trading companies which are said to have announced their target purchasing price at around €0,40 per kg which isn't satisfactory for Bulgarian cherry growers.
Usually, the offered purchasing prices by Italian companies vary between €0,50-€0,60 per kg, and even in some years reaching up to €0,70 per kg.
The reasons for low purchasing prices are explained by lower demands caused by the Covid-19 outbreak which decreased the consumption as well.
