Turmeric plants considered an unpopular crop among farmers because of their minimal daily use. Malaysia is a turmeric importing country to overcome the lack of local supplies. Most turmeric-based food products are imported from abroad, especially in the curry industry and other related industries. Today, turmeric is grown in several states such as Johor, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah, which of nearly 40% of the turmeric crops are grown in the state of Selangor, especially in peatlands destined for fresh markets only. Widespread turmeric cultivation is rare, as most farmers grow on a small scale, where they are only intended for fresh markets.
